What the aughts were not.

Here's a brilliant essay about the decade that is about to pass into history, and why it perfectly forecasts the demise of what we thought was America.

Squelch contends, most humbly, that the decade has another year to grind on, come what may. Decades have 10 years, beginning with a 1 and ending with a 10. They don't begin with zero and end with nine. Beyond that triviality, he makes some good points. We seem to have elected Mr. Rogers unawares; likable but hardly likely to change the neighborhood by force of personality.
